Deep in a great forest, there lived a mighty lion known far and wide as the King of the Jungle. All the animals respected him and stayed out of his way, for his roar alone was enough to make the ground tremble.
One warm afternoon, the lion found a shady spot beneath a tree and lay down for a nap. Soon he was fast asleep - and a little mouse, busy looking for food, accidentally ran right across his paw.
The lion woke with a start and grabbed the mouse angrily. "How dare you wake me!" he roared. "I should eat you right now for such rudeness!"
The frightened mouse trembled but found the courage to speak. "Please forgive me! If you let me go, I promise that one day, I will find a way to help you too."
The lion laughed loudly at the idea. "You? Help me? A tiny thing like you could never be of any use to a lion!" Still, something about the mouse's brave words amused him, and he let her go free.
Many weeks passed, and the lion had almost forgotten the little mouse. One day, while wandering through the forest, he suddenly found himself tangled in a hunter's net hidden among the bushes.
The more he struggled, the tighter the ropes became. He let out a mighty roar of frustration, a sound that echoed through the trees, calling for help he was sure would never come.
As luck would have it, the little mouse was nearby and heard his roar. Recognizing the lion who had once spared her life, she rushed toward him without hesitation.
Using her small, sharp teeth, she began gnawing through the thick ropes, one strand at a time. Bit by bit, the net finally gave way, and the mighty lion was free once again.
"I never believed someone so small could help someone as big as me," the lion said humbly. The mouse smiled proudly. "Size isn't everything, dear lion. Even the smallest friend can make the biggest difference." From that day on, the lion and the mouse became the truest of friends.
