Once there were three little pigs who left home to build houses of their own. The first little pig was lazy and built his house out of straw, finishing it in just one single day.
The second little pig worked a little harder and built his house out of sticks, taking a bit longer but still eager to finish quickly so he could go off and play.
The third little pig, however, worked slowly and carefully, building his house out of strong red bricks, even though it took him many long days of hard, patient work.
One day, a big bad wolf came prowling along, hungry and looking for his dinner. He knocked on the door of the straw house and growled, "Little pig, little pig, let me come in!"
When the first pig refused, the wolf huffed and puffed with all his might and blew the straw house clean down! The frightened pig ran to his brother's stick house, but the wolf soon blew that one down too.
Both pigs ran as fast as their legs could carry them to their brother's brick house and quickly bolted the door shut. The wolf huffed and puffed with everything he had, but the sturdy brick house did not budge even a little.
Furious and determined, the wolf tried to climb down the chimney instead - but the clever third pig had a pot of boiling water waiting right below. The wolf leapt out in surprise and ran away, never to bother the three little pigs again.
From that day on, the three pigs lived safely together in the strong brick house, and the two lazier pigs finally learned the true value of hard work and careful planning.
